Join the Database and Information Systems Group!

(Updated for applications Fall 2008)

The database and information systems group is looking for students with a strong background in database systems (including database design, database theory, query processing, and transaction management), information systems (e.g., Web-based information systems, service oriented architectures), and data mining/KDD. Prospective students should have completed coursework in the areas of database systems, operating systems, programming language, software engineering, and courses in mathematics. We are primarily interested in students who are seeking a PhD degree and have successfully completed a M.Sc. in Computer Science. Background  in areas such as geology, cartography, climatology, physics, bioinformatics, or computational sciences is very welcome as many of our current projects are conducted in these areas! Please also take a look at the research areas.

For more specific information, please contact  Dr. Michael Gertz, Dr. Bertram Ludäscher, or Dr. Ian Davidson.

We strongly prefer PDF files or plain text when you send email attachements. We are in particular interested in your background, courses you have taken (including grades), and projects you have worked on.

Please also note that at this point in time, we can not make any statements about how many positions for research assistants we will have starting Fall 2008, or whether you might be exactly the right student to join the database and information systems group. This all depends on the number and qualification of applicants, and the funding available at that time.
